Thankful Sunday: a Trip, a Compliment and a Whole Lot of Food

I’ve been neglecting to write a couple of Thankful Sunday posts because of a lot of things on my plate. Yeah, I know everyone’s busy blah, blah, blah. I should really learn to prioritize my time.

For the past week, here’s what I am most thankful for.

1. Celine Dion concert
I was so excited to watch Celine Dion‘s concert here in Manila. I even bought a ticket already.

Unfortunately, Celine Dion had to cancel because of her husband’s poor health. This means I get to refund the money I paid for the ticket.

And to SM Tickets’ credit, it already had a system in place to refund the payment. Galing!

So, why am I still thankful for this? Because the refund would allow me to buy a ticket for Beauty and the Beast. 🙂

2. CDO trip
Office sent me to CDO for a two-day business trip. I’ve always liked CDO. I don’t know what it is about that place but I like the vibe of the city. Not too stressful, not too relaxed, not too urbanized, but not too rural. Just the right balance of everything.

I didn’t get to do much touring but it was very nice to meet our field personnel in CDO. They were very accommodating and really treated me well.

3. Food, food, food
The CDO trip was like a food feast. I was treated to a sumptuous lunch at Red Tail, which is just a stone’s throw away from Mallberry Hotel. The seafood dishes were the best. Sorry, no pics kasi gutom na gutom na kami, eh.

One of our PSRs also accompanied us (including A and D) for pasalubong shopping. I bought a lot of lanzones and pastel. Sarap!

4. Dinner with B
B and I had dinner two weeks ago. Now that B is based in Muntinlupa, it’s more seldom that she gets to go to Ortigas. So when she texted me that she’s in Greenhills, I decided to just be absent at school so we can have dinner.

As always, dinner with B is full of conversation about anything and everything.

5. Compliment
Just yesterday, I received an email from Boss Daddy. Basically, Big Daddy just said that I’m an excellent digital resource. It feels good to receive compliments from my boss. It’s an affirmation that they know and appreciate what I do for the company and they acknowledge my competence.

But I also take that compliment as a challenge, to continue improving and leveling up my game.

Oh, my former intern also visited me and complimented me. Sabi nya, di pa din ako nagbabago since nag-OJT sya nung 2010. At ang blooming ko daw. Chos! Hahaha! 😀

How was your week?

Thankful Sunday: Blessings, Blessings, Blessings

This has been a very good week for me. As I wrote a few days back, I have been promoted. Woohooo!

2011 to 2013 were tough years at work and many times, I felt like I was being used as a human shield. But all that has passed and the team has emerged better and stronger professionals.

I myself have come out better and stronger. The reward of many times of presenting to the powers-that-be is this: a much-deserved promotion.

Here are the things I’m grateful for this week:

1. Warm wishes of friends
Thank you for believing in me and for telling me that I deserve this 🙂

2. Boss Daddy’s confidence
We had a team lunch this week and Boss Daddy congratulated me on my promotion. He told me that during the deliberations, when my photo was flashed on the screen, people said “Of course, si Ms Corporate Digital.”

Boss Daddy told me, “Yan na ang equity mo. Yan na ang brand essence mo!” 😀

Yeah, promotions from assistant manager and higher go through deliberations with OpCom members. Yes, dinedefend ang promotions from that level. That’s the premium given to assistant managers and higher positions.

3. The chance to serve.
I’ve been wanting to do this for quite sometime. I just went through the process and I’m not really sure if I’ll pass. Most of the questions asked centered on my current situation, just as I expected. Well, if they will judge me based on that, then I can’t do anything about it.

How was your week?

Thankful Sunday: What a Long Week!

It was a long week! Ako na ang busy! I’m just happy and relieved that the week is over kasi ang dami kong ginawa!

1. Social Media Summit
This is the third year that I’m holding our Social Media Summit. This idea came to me in 2012 when the office is starting to move to digital. It was one of my “little” dreams for the office, that the organization would be equipped with the different social media tools. And I can’t believe I’ve been holding this event for three years now.

This year, I invited some of the known resource persons from digital agencies like Jason Cruz, Leah Besa-Jimenez, Mon Lizardo, Jonas delos Reyes, Rezza Custodio-Soriano, and our very own ASP from Unilab Active Health.

Thanks to teamwork and everyone involved, it’s another sucessful run for SMS 2014. Feedback showed that participants want it to be a two-day event. Parang di ko kakayanin! The Boss Daddy pa naman said I can’t get an agency. Waaah! Baka di kayanin ng powers ko! Hahaha!

Wait, where’s my promotion na?! 😀

2. Happy 48!
My parents celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Two more years at golden anniversary na nila! I’m thankful to have an example of a happy marriage. I just wish I could be just as lucky.

3. Gift of health
My mom was diagnosed to have mild pneumonia and high blood pressure. The doctor, who first checked her, told my dad that she should be confined. My dad sought a second opinion for my mom and her condition can be cured by antibiotics. Thank you!

4. Year of the Laity
It’s the Year of the Laity and the church where I regularly attend Mass held a recruitment day for those who want to serve our parish. Yesterday was the orientation. There would be a series of formation and whatnots and I hope I can pass everything and have the chance to serve in the Lectors and Commentators Ministry.

I do worry, however, with my present circumstances. Sana hindi ako i-judge because of my situation. I do want to serve the Lord and it would be heartbreaking if the parish declines me because of my situation.

5. On vacation
I’ll be on a five-day vacation very soon. Now that I’ve finished a major project in the office, I can finally get excited.

How was your week?

Thankful Sunday: Long Break and Full Schedule

I haven’t posted my Thankful Sunday last week as I had a lot of things to attend to. I really should be mindful and more disciplined in writing about the things I am thankful for.

These are the things I was thankful for the last two weeks:

1. Back to school
I’ll be back in graduate school this week. I enrolled in two subjects this semester even though that wasn’t my original plan.

It’s going to be a busy second semester in the office and then, I’m adding school work to my work load. It’s going to be crazy but I know I will enjoy this semester. You see, one of the subjects I’ll take is Introduction to Graduate Cinema and it will be taught by my favorite grad school professor!

Yeah, yeah. I’m such a nerd!

After this semester, I’ll only have three subjects left before I finish my graduate degree. It’s the final stretch, baby!

2. Time with a good friend
I spent a day with B at Ateneo because she wanted to know more about the MA Communication program. It’s nice that she got to see a little bit of my world.

I’m also thankful that the office has a loan program for employees who are taking graduate studies. Zero-percent interest! Sabi nga ng isang office friend ko, “Para ka lang nangutang sa magulang mo.” 😀

Money’s a bit tight right now sa dami ng kailangan kong asikasuhin so this is one benefit I’m thankful for.

3. Lunch-outs with office friends
For some reason, we had a lot of lunch-outs with office friends the last two weeks. I’m not complaining as it’s a great way to de-stress from work. We tried a few trendy restaurants: Yabu, Boqueria and 8 Cuts.

No pictures. I think I mentioned it before. I don’t want to post photos of my friends in this blog without their permission (unless the photos are long shots and you can barely recognize their faces). 🙂

4. Major project almost complete
One of the major projects I have this year is in its final stretch. Social Media Summit is an event I hold every year for our brand and marketing people.

This year, I’m putting a little twist to it as I’m incorporating two mini-workshops. All the confirmed speakers are recognized industry experts so I’m really excited.

The only downside of being the project champion for this is that I don’t get to listen to the talks because I’m busy overseeing everything. Hay…

Sana next year, I find someone who will take over this. It’s about time na ipamana ko na ito.

5. Friends marathon
As always, office was considerate enough to give us a long weekend. June 13 is sandwiched kasi by June 12 and the weekend so our corporate calendar indicated that we have a four-day weekend.

I love the fact that the office gives us our company schedule way in advance so we get to plan our vacation. Mas madali ang buhay namin.

Surprise, surprise! I stayed home this four-day long weekend. Yeah, I didn’t plan any travel this time. One, I don’t have excess money for another trip. My gulay, halos every month, bumibiyahe ako! Second, other friends have plans. Third, I have another trip next month, which I am saving up for. Fourth, there are other expenses I need to attend to.

So these factors really make it impractical for me to travel. But it’s fine because I spent the long weekend on a FRIENDS marathon!

It took me several months to complete my FRIENDS DVD compilation and I didn’t want to hold a marathon na hindi complete. Thankfully, the Season 5 I ordered from Amazon finally arrived.

I’ve always liked FRIENDS. I remember watching bits and pieces of it on Channel 5 when I was in ollege. Hindi ko lang nakumpletong panoorin because it was shown on a school night (Wednesday, I think). But I know what happened with the characters.

10 years later, I finally get to watch it in full. What can I say? Timeless talaga ang FRIENDS. Patok ang lines, ang wardrobe, and hair! I was telling fellow FRIENDS lovers that the hairstyle of Rachel Green is a classic. Kahit ngayon, pwede pa din gayahin.

Ah, FRIENDS. The family you choose. Sayang lang the cast and producers don’t really want a movie made out of this.

So, how was your week?

Thankful Sunday: Arts, Culture and Celebration

The last two weeks were busy, busy, busy. But I’m not complaining.

Here are just some of the highlights of the past two weeks:

1. Culture and Arts
The team had a summer outing two weeks ago. We went to National Musuem and joined Carlos Celdran’s Walk This Way. Yeah, it’s not the typical summer outing of beaches. We’re nerds that way. 🙂

2. Celebrations
Two members of our team celebrated their birthdays–M and the Boss Daddy. And celebrations mean food, food, and more food! 🙂 Mababaw lang talaga kaligayahan ng team namin. The way to our hearts is good food. 🙂

3. Results of my annual physical exam
I haven’t undergone an annual physical exam in years. Last April, I finally had the chance to do it. The results were not ideal but I’m still thankful because it means I have the chance to get back in tip-top shape.

How was your week?

Thankful Sunday: Busy, busy, busy

It’s been quite a busy week, both professionally and personally. No complaints because it means things are moving along.

I had to attend to a lot of meetings and preparations for work. This meant a lot of emailing, logistics planning, and consultation.

But I’m glad that things are proceeding smoothly. And I hope I can accomplish more in the coming weeks.

How was your week?

Thankful Sunday: Gift of Health

The heat is a bitch!

I don’t get sick often. Proof of that is my maximum 60-day sick leave in the office.

In fact, I’ve accumulated 68.5 days of sick leave because I rarely get sick.

But the heat was just really bad last week and tinumba nya talaga ako.

I had to take a two-day sick leave from work. I had sore throat, cough, and cold. When I returned to work last Wednesday, I was still feeling under the weather.

Anyway, I’m thankful that it was a very minor sickness. Nothing that complete rest wouldn’t cure. And I’m thankful for the company I work for because of the effective medicines we manufacture.

Health is wealth talaga.

How was your week?

Thankful Sunday: Sights, Touch, Sounds, and Taste

I didn’t get to write my Thankful Sunday last week because I was too damn tired. Office declared a four-day weekend and so I packed my bags and left.

Here are the things I was thankful for the last two weeks:

1. Trips
I flew to the Visayas for a quick getaway. The place was beautiful and I spent the entire day just admiring the view. The trip could have been a little better but I was just thankful to be someplace new.

I wish I could go back to that place with my dearest friends.

2. Good food
An office event required us to go to Gawad Kalinga’s Enchanted Farm. I’ve always liked that place because of how the people are so passionate in uplifting the lives of those who need it.

More than that and for selfish reasons, I got to buy one of my favorite chocolates–Theo and Philo. Sure, I can buy these from Echo Store but well, nandun na ako, eh. 🙂

I was also pleasantly surprised that Bayani Brew now has a new flavor. I didn’t like its lemongrass tea then because I felt the tanglad taste was too strong. This one–Purple Leaf–tastes light and nice.

3. Gift
Friends know my love for traveling and I’m always happy when friends remember to buy fridge magnet for me. I love how thoughtful my friends are and I’m thankful for having them in my life. 🙂

This Tam-Awan fridge magnet comes from Badet, the lady behind the popular Badudets. Thank you, B! 🙂

4. Catch-up week.
Just this week, I meet with several friends for catch-up. First was CDC when he PM’d me about Run United 2. Turns out CDC has been bitten by the running bug!

I’ve known CDC since we were in high school and we’ve stayed in touch over the years. CDC also now knows my current state. Wehehe!

I also had dinner with AGM and MS. AGM was once my direct report but has been transferred to a different division. It was nice to catch up with her and know what’s going on in her life.

Finally, I met with a couple of barkadas from high school. JCC’s dad passed away and she just flew in from UK, where she, her husband and daughter are residing. I missed JDC and MMM very much. I visited MMM last year but I haven’t seen JDC in five years.

I wished I didn’t have to meet them under sad circumstances but I’m just glad to see them.

How was your week?

What a Day!

It’s a happy day at the office. April 30 is always a happy day at the office. #thankyoumoreplease

And thank You, Lord, for the blessing. Thank You for always taking care of me. 🙂

Thankful Sunday: Happy Conversations

Some conversations are normal and they do not leave a lasting mark in your heart. But there are conversations that just make your heart flutter.

I wish to have more conversations like that. Conversations that make me smile and grin from ear to ear. Conversations that make my heart happy. Conversations that make me kilig.

And I’m grateful to be part of conversations like that. 🙂

How’s your week?
